5 out of 5 stars Great outdoor, compact, full featured adventure all in one camcorder   September 5, 2010

Very compact, easy to use and of good quality build.

All over good features, but please keep in mind - buy this for the intended use - if people complain or make assumptions that it will be some amazing camera in all situations, then think again. it is designed for outdoor use with adventure in mind, or great with kids and any trip. if may not have the sharpest video quALITY BUT YOU CAN'T EXPECT THAT in all situations. for me being a surfer and wanting a video cam for the beach and water - you can NOT beat it. battery life is very long about 3.5 hrs. it is VERY compact - and very easy to use. what more do you want. i would think everyone needs one - what else is kid proof, waterproof to 10+ feet and has a battery life of 3.5 hrs?
nothing. then you need this.

1 out of 5 stars Camera Faulty and Customer Service Horrendous   August 12, 2010

I bought this camera and tried it in the water once and it seemed to work ok. The second time I took it snorkeling, it took in water and completely broke. The manufacturer warranty is one year but the parts warranty 30 days (this was 36 days after purchase). I wanted this $100+ service fee waived since this UNDERWATER camera took in WATER. It wasn't human error. I had to send it to customer care center which is independent of Sanyo itself. Originally, Sanyo said they would honor my request if it was mechanical. The service center said it was not economical to fix since it was damaged in 7 major places and Sanyo agreed to send me a new camera (which they tried to sell me on was a very big deal and gracious of them). However, I would still need to pay 100+ service fee for a camera they DIDN'T fix. I have been fighting the good fight for months and just this morning was told because I live in the Virgin Islands, the warranty doesn't apply to me anyway. I was also told by the service center, it is very common for consumers to not close the camera properly thus allowing water into the guts of the camera. Why would a manufacturer create an underwater camera so suseptible to taking in water and being damaged? My whole experience with this camera and with Sanyo has been very negative.

4 out of 5 stars Waterproof HD and affordable   August 10, 2010

Its easy to use, waterproof and HD. Ive used it several times in the past two months and the hardest thing about it is nothing. I don't expect to be Cousteau using this thing, and low light is very weak, but during the day and in water I am very pleased.

1 out of 5 stars Worst thing I ever bought!   August 3, 2010

Like most people I bought this camcorder/camera to film my vacation where I would be snorkeling and hanging around the pool or beach. Within the 3rd day of filming, it crapped out. Water got into the LCD screen and I could no longer see what I'm recording.

The pictures and videos that I did take was very poor quality. If you plan on using the zoom, you're going to get jumpy pictures because there is no auto stabilizer. Don't get me wrong, you can zoom in really far, but it's crappy video and it's all over the place.

The picture quality is really poor, as in my dad's cell phone had more megapixels then this thing. Most cellphones these days has at least 5 megapixels, this thing only has close to 2 megapixels.

Once I got back home, I called their customer support and it was a nightmare. They only have two support centers in United States, that's it. One of them has really poor reviews. It will take you over $50 to send the camcorder to them and then they will either fix it or tell you that it was user error. When I sent mine in, they said that it was user error and that I had to pay close to $250 for the repair and $50 for them to send it back to me. I could not see how floating in the ocean and filming fishes is user error. I cleaned the camcorder as the instruction said, NEVER dropped it and carried it with me everywhere. At the end, I just told the guy to keep it because I could buy a new camcorder for that price.

So at the end of about two weeks of using the camcorder, I am out over $400 dollars with no camcorder and a very important lesson learned. NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM SANYO.
