Product Description
The 2010 Tachyon XC Micro is the industry's smallest helmet camera with features like water-proofing without an external case, a patented shockproof design, wide field of vision, and superior light-gathering ability. The XC Micro is also the only helmet camera on the market that can accept the entire range of Micro SDHC cards, from 4 to 32GB. The XC Micro's condensed size combined with its easy to use nature makes it the ideal helmet camera for the adventure enthusiast. Designed for filming action in extreme conditions, the XC Micro comes with a universal mounting system that can connect the camera to goggles, helmets, sporting equipment, dashboards and more to accommodate the many diverse situations users run into. The sheer size, simplicity and extreme ruggedness of the XC Micro will allow users to forget the camera and focus on their sport. The new XC Micro boasts a high-dynamic image sensor and a 90 degree wide angle lens, matching the sweet spot of human vision, allowing users to capture clear, undistorted video in low-light situations or underwater. With loss of video due to loose battery connections being the No. 1 helmet camera complaint, Tachyon developed and patented a shockproof battery system to keep the camera's batteries locked and secure, so video can survive the shocks of the most adverse situations. Camera users can have peace-of-mind as they capture demanding and often once-in-a-lifetime extreme situations. The XC Micro's 4-hour battery life will also tide users through their adventures, without the worry of dead batteries that plagues other more power-hungry, expensive helmet cameras. The XC Micro's use of common AAA batteries, rather than proprietary ones, means users can easily grab more wherever batteries are sold. Two Recordng Modes: Video and Time Lapse Photograpy. Time Lapse takes one photo every two seconds. View & playback videos directly on your PC, Mac, or TV (NTSC or PAL). No software needed

Quick shipment. Item as described. Takes good quality video. Small compact. Adjusts quickly to changes in light. Would recommend.

4 out of 5 stars great buy   August 14, 2010

extremely happy with the ease an quality of it. like the fact it came with an outer cover to protect the lense even though it is already weather proof especially since im in afghanistan right now, picture is great, not HD of course, but worth every penny. it does use expensive batteries for only little record time. the only thing that kept it from a 5 star was the microphone quality, not that its real important to me, but is somethin to change in the future, other than that great buy and would buy it again if i had to do over again

4 out of 5 stars Using For RC Aerial Photography   August 12, 2010
Paul F. Sterbentz (Mountain View, CA)
Plus:

Compared to a HD 720i mini cam this unit produces smoother, more saturated shots in 4:3 aspect. Quicker recovery when going from light to dark scenes and back It's obviously not HD but a surprisingly pleasing picture as long as you don't view it too large - looks very good on You Tube right out of the camera. It's built with a heavy duty locking cover on the back so that the battery and card remain in place even if you crash (you'll appreciate the dramatic footage). Simple controls. Relatively light weight.

Minus:

Hard to mount with angled walls. Meant to be an extreme sports helmet/hat cam so you are pretty much on your own figuring out how to fit it on your RC craft. Because it's built to take a hit, it's a bit bulkier.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but could be improved   August 12, 2010

I bought this for using in paintball. It is small, light weight, the picture crisp (but not HD), and easy to use. I wish there was a way to get better sound without leaving the back wide-open. Also, it requires the use of Energizer Ultimate lithium AAA batteries, which are quite expensive for only 2 hours of use. The included mask mount is curved and when I attached it on the goggle strap it was not level, forcing me to glue spacers to get it to sit level. There should be a strip of industrial Velcro included (mine was missing) to attach to a helmet. This should work OK if you are attaching it to the top or side of a hard, smooth helmet. If you attach it to the side you need to make sure it is level at the point of attachment.

4 out of 5 stars Great little action camera.   July 9, 2010

Great picture quality for the size and price of the camera, especially on sunny days. Keeps up with speed and shaking without rippling too bad. It gobbles up memory cards at about 15mins per 1 Gb so buy a big MicroSD card. The audio is muffled due to the microphone being inside the waterproof enclosure, but that's understandable.
The universal mount the camera comes with is handy for mounting to your helmet but not much else. I do wish it came with an assortment of mounts or at least a nut to screw a tripod into like the full size XC has. Also, the 3M dual lock velcro works great, but if you put any on the camera it will no longer fit in the universal mount.
In all I love this camera and for the price the picture quality can't be beat. I just wish I had more options for mounting.
