2 out of 5 stars Cheap, but doesn't do the job   September 7, 2010

My sister had the smaller handheld Camileo HD camcorder and really liked it. However I wanted optical zoom and image stabilization so opted for it's bigger brother. I think I should have waited on this purchase because this sapce is rapidly evolving and I don't think Toshiba have got this product right yet.
The image quality is not great with many of the colors washed out, it really needs image stabilization (but that's only available in 720p and not the better 60 frames or 1080p modes) and low light (or even indoor) video quality is terrible. However my biggest complaint (and may just be my unit) is the battery performance which seems to be less than 1 hour of usage before the meter drops from full to red to dead. I'm going to try contacting Toshiba to get a replacement battery but don't fancy my chances. Will update this is they fix that issue atleast.

4 out of 5 stars Above average value for the price   September 1, 2010

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3CWWTY2NKL4YE Taken during a nice sunny day (but not the kind of harsh very bright sunlight) about 3 pm. As you can see, colors are on the high saturation side with decent dynamic range on contrast. This camera is okay for the price and IMO gives good value for entry level full HD camcorder. It can fit in your cargo pants pocket or hoodie pocket for convenience.

CONS: Before you buy this camera make sure your video editing program either works with or can concert 1080p in AVI format. I use Pinnacle Studio HD 14 and it works well with this camcorders files but only if I video in 720p. It can't work with the 1080p files and I have to use another programs to either render to 720p or convert to 1080p mp4.

Don't buy this if you plan to use the still photos. They are very average quality (if not below) and needs optimal conditions for acceptable still photos. It seems I favor photos taken with my 10 year 1.2 megapixel Fuji than photos takes with this camcorder but hey it's a camcorder and not a pony and shoot.

3 out of 5 stars An adequate camcorder   September 1, 2010

I received this camera about a week ago. I had a Sony before this but my son lost it in France. I really wish i had that one back now! The zoom on this camera isn't adequate. I took some video at a ballgame and could not zoom in enough to see faces. So if you really want a good zoom feature, look elsewhere. Pictures turn out fairly decent, but the video doesn't quite see HD to me. There is a bit of fuzziness to it especially if you use zoom. I'm a casual user and don't require a professional grade camera, but this one is just barely good enough for amateur use.

4 out of 5 stars Could be a great entry level hd camcorder   July 15, 2010

This camcorder is the perfect size, its not big and bulky and is easy to carry around.
    Pros:
-I love that it came with all of the HDMI cords which could easily run another $50
    -Easy to carry
    -10 megapixel camera
    _ touch screen
    -stabilizer
    -zoom
-Easy to upload to you tube
    Cons:
-No led light and you can't film in low light, like at my daughter's recital
    - Not MAC compatible

1 out of 5 stars Sadly, not up to snuff   July 1, 2010

I've had this for 3 weeks now, and I'm returning it.

It was a nice idea, Toshiba, but it fails on too many fronts. Image stabilization - never had such jittery video, even at widest zoom, and I have a steady hand. Sound recording was not good if more than a few feet from subject. Color rendition was terrible, the reds were just mind blowing overdone. Low light video, forget it, ultra grainy, no contrast, low details. Very slow to focus while zooming. I shot a few sample photos and wasn't impressed. I brought this to a friend's wedding and I'm embarrassed to show them the results. I've had better all around results with a Canon A1100IS, which I'm going back to.

I did like the battery life, compactness, controls, and menus. But all that doesn't matter if the recording is so poor. I would not recommend this camera to anyone.
